Carpenter Reservoir and Downton Reservoir are the largest water storage in the Chilcotin Ark. The Chilcotin Ark is the largest water storage in western North America. These sources are highly valuable and sensitive resources for human, wildlife and ecosystems.
Overuse or inappropriate use of the watershed area can increase pollution of the water sources, loss of habitat and reduced wildlife migration. Watershed planning is crucial for the protection of the resource. Management plans that monitor the water quality and ensure best practices can reduce this problem. Resource users are encouraged to follow guidelines like the Water Protection Act and Stewardship Plans to ensure healthy watersheds into the future. The Chilcotin Ark Institute supports road deactivation by logging companies with stream rehabilitation.
